In this creative writing workshop, we will focus on describing a location within St. Louis in a surprising, invigorating way. You get to choose the place, and together we will experiment with using abstract and concrete language, culminating in a poem or prose project of your own making.
About the Speaker
A St. Louis native, Eileen G’Sell received an MA in English and Film studies at the University of Rochester and an MFA in poetry at Washington University in St. Louis. A poet and culture critic with contributions to the Los Angeles Review of Books, Film Quarterly, The Kenyon Review, Salon, Hyperallergic, DIAGRAM, Boston Review, ALIVE, St. Louis Magazine, and other outlets, she published her first full-length volume of poetry, Life After Rugby, in 2018 with Gold Wake Press. In 2019 she was nominated for the national Rabkin Foundation award in arts journalism. She teaches at Washington University and for the Prison Education Project at Missouri Eastern Correctional Center.
