Gavriel Savit, Author

Gavriel Savit kicks off the Summer Writers Institute with a wide-ranging discussion of the life and labor of the writer, including topics such as the values and liabilities of research, the limitations of artistic control, and the best fish tacos in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

This year’s SWI offers a diverse range of in-person creative writing classes over the course of three weeks: July 10–30, 2023. Courses provide an interactive blend of learning activities, complemented by illuminating talks and workshops as part of our free Public Program series.

Sessions are held evenings and weekends to accommodate participants’ busy schedules. In poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and multi-genre workshops, adult writers from all levels of experience work together with published authors and exceptional teachers in a supportive, non-competitive format that allows for personalized attention and constructive feedback.

The Summer Writers Institute provides 3 units of credit. An application is not required. The School of Continuing & Professional Studies also offers a Certificate in Creative Writing, and SWI course credits count toward that. Course registration begins March 27, 2023.
