Creative Nonfiction

Deanna Benjamin has taught critical and creative writing at Washington University since 2008.  Her studies and teaching focus on theories of identity, memory, and storytelling, as well as the histories and structures of the essay, memoir, and lyric prose.  Her work can be read in Brevity, Fifth Wednesday Journal, The Carolina Quarterly, and other reviews and has been anthologized in Red Claw Press’s Sleep It: Writers and Artists Do Sleep.  Forthcoming in 2021 are her critical essay, “Writing Someone Else’s Story: Entitlement and Empathy in Maxine Hong Kingston’s ‘No Name Woman,’” to be published in Women in Fairness: Navigating an Unfair World (Waxmann), and “The Delicate Periphery of Your Crime” to appear in Waterwheel Review.
